Palm Harbor offers that relaxed small town vibe without necessarily being isolated. It is 15-30 minutes from downtown St.Petersburg, Clearwater, and Tampa. It also brings that beachy, tropical vibe which attracts a good number of its residents. Palm Harbor is home to some of the best golf courses in the country such as the The Westin Innisbrook Resort . It is commonly and locally known as the "upper class" area of Pinellas County. Palm Harbor University High School is a nationally recognized school and is one of the best schools in the Southern United States. Eighty percent of the senior class qualifies for Florida Bright Futures scholarships and the school is known for excelling in Women's and Men's Soccer, winning state championships. The downtown district of Palm Harbor hosts many festivals and craft fairs. The first Friday of every month they celebrate "First Friday" where teenagers can come hangout, play games, win prizes and adults can sample food from local restaurants and explore the downtown district. Palm Harbor is home to many fine restaurants, a majority being places that serve seafood.
Early History: Palm Harbor was originally settled by J.C. Craver, who moved to the area in 1877 upon the advice of his physician. A post office was granted in 1888, the same year that the railroad was completed in the area. Palm Harbor was originally called Sutherland, a shortening of Southern Land and Development Company, the group that originally platted the community in 1888. The name was changed to Palm Harbor in 1925.
